We are a congregation with a particular vision of linking people to the love of God. You will find us enthusiastic about new ways to put this vision into practice. We are open to new ideas from new people who hope to find God’s calling in human life.
Our mission – to link people to God’s love through open, affirming, and creative ministries of worship, nurture, and care – has been an ongoing work in progress. Though we expect never to perfectly realize this vision we are moving toward it as we live our faith in a hurting world.
We hold to one doctrine alone, that Jesus is the Christ. It is our practice to observe the Lord’s Supper in weekly worship and we practice baptism by immersion while welcoming Christians of every other tradition. At First Christian Church all are free to cherish doctrines and traditions that have helped their faith, but we require no other doctrine than the central belief of all Christians; Jesus is the Christ.
First Christian Church is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada, the first protestant movement begun on these shores. Born out of a sense of freedom, and against the religious strife that was too pervasive in the early 1800’s, the Christian Churches encouraged diverse people to gather into houses of worship to unite in the one common belief of all Christians. As the earliest ecumenical church, we have always engaged with other denominations of the Christian faith. You may find more information about our beliefs and history at www.Disciples.org.
If you seek a new relationship with God who, through Jesus Christ, loves and cares for you, consider yourself invited. We hope you will find here a place of encouragement and peace, where Jesus welcomes all God’s people, where all can belong to God’s family.
